We recently spoke with Don Gramur, a talented musician and songwriter, about his latest projects, the economy, and his thoughts on the music industry…
HH Examiner: So, Don Gramur. How’s it going?
Don Gramur: Everything is cool. Just pushing forward with my endeavors and being my best self.
HH Examiner: That’s always a good thing. Especially given the current state of the economy. I’m glad you can keep a positive attitude despite everything. What motivates you to be optimistic during these times?
Don Gramur: My personal life experiences. I believe that everything I’ve gone through has led me to this point. A pessimistic outlook has never helped anyone in any situation. The Holy Spirit in me has guided me to this higher level of genuine positivity and truth.
HH Examiner: Well, you appear to be a wonderful person who creates incredible music. Tell us about one of your most recent projects, “Higher”?
Don Gramur: I wrote “Higher” as a declaration of my transition into higher thoughts. At some point, I let go of man’s ways of thinking and chose to let the Most High LORD establish my thoughts. Although I was still transitioning and battling things at the time of writing the song, I knew I was changing. So, at this point in my life, I am exactly where I wanted to be when I wrote the song.
HH Examiner: That’s pretty amazing. I know you’re a lyricist. What is one of your favorite lines from that song?
Don Gramur: “I got joy up in my soul, I hope you got it too… when I be deep up in my bag, it’s just to profit you… uplift you with the good news like the prophets do.. A seed of faith, a seed of GRACE, I was plottin’ two/too.”
HH Examiner: That is awesome. The plotting two/too line is hot. You write bars that are quite layered. Does that hurt your music in a music industry where so many artists stick to simple wordplay and melodies?
Don Gramur: I don’t think so. There are supporters for every type of artist. There are many people who favor lyrically advanced and music with deeper meaning. Having said that, I write various kinds of songs. I also have some songs with simpler wordplay. Even so, I still think those songs’ lyrics have a little more impact than those of other songs. I’m also not trying to fit in with the music industry. In other words, I’m creating my own thing. I prefer not to follow today’s music industry trends.
HH Examiner: It’s refreshing to see someone with a fresh perspective. Are there any new projects on the horizon?
Don Gramur: Like a loaded gun. The chamber is never empty. This year, LORD willing, my fans will hear some great music.
HH Examiner: All right, man. Is there anything else you want to say to your supporters?
Don Gramur: Make sure to follow me on Instagram @thedongramur and listen to my music on all major platforms.
