Kourtney Kardashian is speaking up after receiving online backlash regarding a boating photo of her 21-month-old son, Rocky Thirteen, without a life jacket.
The Photo That Sparked Debate
On Friday (Aug. 8), the 46-year-old reality TV star — who shares Rocky with her husband, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker — posted a series of vacation photos on Instagram. Among them was an image showing Rocky on a boat without a life vest, prompting immediate criticism from followers.
Several comments pointed out safety concerns. “Great photo except for the fact the child has no life jacket on,” one person wrote. Another urged, “Please, please put a life jacket on that sweet babe!” A third added, “You wouldn’t drive without a seatbelt, so why be on the water without a vest? It can be unpredictable and dangerous.”
Many fans also noted that the family appeared to be in Idaho, where state law requires children 14 and under to wear a life jacket on a boat.
Kourtney’s Response to the Concern
The next day, Kardashian addressed the situation on her Instagram Story. Over a photo of a small, infant-sized life jacket, she wrote:
“Update: bought a life vest that fits! Good looking out. Honestly didn’t think about some of the dangers. Thank you for making me aware and hopefully this helps make other mommies aware of the dangers of certain types of boating without a life vest.”
Her candid acknowledgment was met with appreciation from fans who praised her for taking the feedback seriously.
A Glimpse Into Family Life
The original boating photo showed Kardashian seated at the back of the boat holding Rocky, whom she welcomed in November 2023. In addition to Rocky, the Lemme founder is mom to Mason, 15, Penelope, 13, and Reign, 10, from her previous relationship with Scott Disick.
Other snapshots from the Instagram post included a mirror selfie in a bodysuit, peaceful lake views, and photos of delicious meals enjoyed during the trip, which she captioned, “Food for the soul.”
